Handyman in Coral Gables, Miami

From Mediterranean Revival bungalows to newer single-family homes — repairs, painting, and installs suited to how Coral Gables is actually built.

Coral Gables has some of the oldest, most consistently maintained housing stock in Miami-Dade — a lot of Mediterranean Revival and Spanish-style homes from the 1920s through the 1950s, many with plaster walls instead of drywall, and original hardware and trim that homeowners want repaired to match rather than replaced with something generic. We treat those differences as the default here, not a surprise mid-job.

Plaster behaves differently than drywall for patching, painting, and anchoring shelves or mirrors — it's harder, it cracks differently, and it takes different fasteners. On the newer homes and renovated units throughout the Gables, standard drywall techniques apply, but we confirm which we're working with before quoting anything that involves cutting into or anchoring to a wall.

Most of what we get called for in Coral Gables is interior painting (a lot of homeowners repainting a room or refreshing trim rather than a full repaint), ceiling fan installs and swaps (fans run most of the year here, same as everywhere in Miami, but Gables homes often have higher or vaulted ceilings that change the job), and shelving or art installation in homes where the walls aren't standard modern drywall-over-stud construction.

Coral Gables also has some of the more active HOA and historic-district guidelines in the county for exterior work — that's outside what we do, but it's worth knowing going in if a repair touches anything visible from the street.
